Why is CBD so Expensive?

Why is CBD so Expensive?

What is CBD and CBD oil?

CBD is one of more than one hundred cannabinoids found in cannabis.  It is different from its cousin THC, which is also a cannabinoid.

THC is the compound that gives one the feeling of a high sensation when smoking or using marijuana products.

CBD on the other hand does not cause a high and there has not been any reports of death from CBD.  CBD helps relax the mind and the body without a psychoactive sensation.

CBD is legal in all 50 states, while THC is not.  This is because CBD contains no more than 0.3% THC.

How do I Choose a CBD Oil that Works?

The CBD you find at your local gas station differs greatly from the CBD you find at a trusted CBD store.

This is because CBD oil varies in potency and purity.  However, buyer beware! A high price doesn’t guarantee potency and purity, just as a low price should make you concerned.

The first thing when purchasing CBD is to check the milligrams of CBD in the product.  It should be labeled clearly on the front.  If not, put it down and walk away slowly.

Next, check the ingredients.  None of the ingredients should be a cause for concern.  In fact, they should all be natural ingredients aside from the oil, which is usually MCT, coconut or hemp.

Lastly, check to confirm there is an FDA warning or language that this product is not intended to diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure disease.

How is CBD Made?

There are two primary CBD extraction processes used to create CBD products.

The first is the ethanol extraction process.  Alcohol is used to strip CBD oil from the hemp plant and then ethanol is added to hemp. The mixture is strained and distilled until there’s no more ethanol remaining.

This process is inexpensive and is used to create non-potent and less expensive CBD products.

The second CBD extraction process is called a CO2 extraction. This process utilizes expensive machinery in a much more controlled environment. Pressurized carbon dioxide is used to pull the oil from the hemp. CO2 extraction method is known for producing very high quality and potent CBD oil and thus, is more costly.

Are there Different Qualities and Strengths/Potencies of CBD?

Yes. As with marijuana plants, hemp growers create strains for desired chemical makeup. This is necessary because the hemp used for CBD oil extraction needs to contain high amounts of CBD, otherwise the product won’t have any effect on the consumer.

That’s why it is important to check the potency (milligrams) of CBD prior to purchase.  Some cheaper CBD products contain little or no CBD, but still label the product as CBD oil.  Always purchase CBD from a reputable source.  This does not include gas stations and bodegas! And if possible, get a recommendation from someone who has used the product before and can verify it works!  At My Pain Center we only sell products we believe work and provide our honest testimonials on each product we recommend.

Cheap CBD and Additives

Low-quality products may contain chemicals that are harmful to your body.  These chemicals could be due to a cheap, poor quality extraction process, low quality hemp, unsanitary production environments, or a bit of each!

That’s why it is super important to go with a trusted brand, even if it is pricier, to ensure you’re not ingesting chemical solvents.

Amazon

Perhaps you found cheap CBD on Amazon?  Buyer beware (I say this a lot!)!

It’s not legal to sell CBD on Amazon.  Therefore, the “CBD” products you see for sale on Amazon are not legit.  Same with CBD found on Google Shopping, Facebook, or Instagram – be careful what you are buying and ingesting.

Is CBD oil worth the price tag?

Honestly, sometimes it’s not.  I have tried over 100 CBD products and many of them were poor quality and not worth the expensive price.  Some did absolutely nothing.  But the ones I did find and love are providing me with many benefits, including reduced pain, improved mood, and decreased anxiety.

With the right product, CBD can change your life.  Sadly, with the wrong product you may feel scammed and lose faith in the benefits of CBD.  If you need help picking the right product for you, reach out to me and let’s find you something that will actually work!

Why should I use CBD?

Research has shown CBD to be beneficial for a myriad of health conditions ranging from chronic pain, insomnia, cancer, anxiety, depression, epilepsy, nausea, inflammation, fatigue, arthritis, and much more!

CBD can be a natural alternative too many medications that lead to dependency, addiction, and severe side effects.

Its health benefits along with its lack of severe side effects is why we, at My Pain Center, love CBD.

Closing thoughts

Why is CBD so expensive?

In a nutshell – you get what you pay for.  For some brands, a high price means high quality.  For others, a high price means strong branding and no benefits.  And then there are the cheaper CBD products that entice you, but leave you feeling the same (or even worse).  It’s important to do your research, read reviews, check potencies (mg), and make sure you’re ingesting a safe, clean product.

A good quality CBD has a lot of benefits including better health, happiness, and overall quality of life.  A low-grade CBD oil may leave you feeling scammed.

Here at My Pain Center, my goal is to share my learnings around CBD.  If I can help answer any questions or provide more information on any of our products, please reach out!
