Delta-8 is the new craze in the cannabis industry. But what is it and is it legal?
What is Delta-8 THC?
The cannabis plant has hundreds of cannabinoids, such as CBD and THC. Another cannabinoid is Delta-8 THC.
Wait, but what’s THC and how is it different from Delta-8 THC?
THC or Delta-9 THC is the THC you are probably most familiar with. It’s the THC you hear about in marijuana or weed. It’s the cannabinoid that is mostly illegal in the United States, minus a few states who have legalized THC. People have a love and hate relationship with THC, because THC can cause paranoia, elevated anxiety, or dizziness. THC can also make you feel “stoned” which is one reason people have moved to CBD.
So, what is Delta-8 THC?
Delta-8 THC is another cannabinoid in the cannabis plant, but it has a different chemistry component than Delta-9 THC. Due to its chemistry, Delta-8 THC does not make one feel paranoid, dizzy or stoned. However, I will caveat this. I have heard some people say they feel high, when using Delta-8 THC. My personal opinion, from using Delta-8 THC, is this is a focus high. I definitely feel more clear-headed and focused, that definitely feels different than my day-to-day feelings! If you do feel “stoned” from using Delta-8 THC, I suggest trying another brand to see if you may have a cannabis sensitivity. Another reason that you feel high, is that the Delta-8 THC product you purchased may have more than the legal amount of THC, so always check the lab results!
OK, so Delta-8 THC doesn’t make me high. Then what does it do?
Delta-8 THC may help you with:
- And Appetite
I consider Delta-8 THC the light version of Delta-9 THC. Another way to think about is, if you enjoy going out and taking shots, you may like Delta-9 THC. But if you rather but rather sip wine at home, then you want Delta-8 THC.
Delta-8 THC has shown to be:
Less anxiety provoking
Leave you more clear-headed
Feeling of relaxation
Smoother / less potent than Delta-9 THC
And a manageable feeling
What is Delta-8 THC good for?
- If you find little relief from CBD, but don’t want to use THC
- Low tolerance for THC
- Need a stronger way to manage anxiety or pain
- Suffer from nausea
- Need an appetite stimulant
Do be aware, that Delta-8 THC can have the legal amount of Delta-9 THC under the Farm Bill Act of 2018, which is 0.3%. Which means if you get drug tested, be careful.
Is Delta-8 THC legal?
Great question! It’s definitely a question that’s being discussed in detail. The answer: it depends.
It depends what is in your Delta-8 THC product and where it came from. To be legal, the Delta-8 THC needs to come from the hemp plant, not the marijuana plant. It must also have less than 0.3% THC.
How do I know?
Ask to see the lab results for the product and confirm.
Can you recommend a safe Delta-8 THC product to try?
